This is the largest single bet in the AI industry to date ahead of IPO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who received the funding<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Amazon + Alphabet<\/strong>: ~11 GW, over $30 billion\u2014undisputed leaders<\/li>\n<li><strong>Microsoft<\/strong>: Over $30 billion, approximately 1 GW<\/li>\n<li><strong>SpaceX Colossus<\/strong>: Approximately $4.5 billion<\/li>\n<li><strong>AMD<\/strong>: A 2 GW order for MI450 chips<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, The Information confirmed that Anthropic is the \u201canonymous customer\u201d referenced in Rum Group\u2019s six-year deal in Maysville, Georgia <strong>For $13.7 billion<\/strong>The agreement, while Rum Group has yet to close its financing, imposes no upstream financing condition on Anthropic\u2019s payment obligations\u2014a clause only a company supremely confident about its IPO would dare sign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u201cSlowing down\u201d and \u201cgoing all-in\u201d are not contradictory<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At first glance, CEO Dario Amodei\u2019s long post last weekend calling for \u201climits on frontier AI\u201d appears self-contradictory when followed immediately by disclosure of a half-trillion-dollar compute expansion. Yet a close reading reveals Amodei intends to slow down<strong>\u201ccapabilities\u201d<\/strong>, not<strong>\u201cdeployment\u201d<\/strong>\u2014and the 14.8 GW of compute falls squarely under deployment. In other words, Anthropic\u2019s strategy is \u201cbraking on capability development while accelerating commercialization.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">This is an arms race<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Zooming out, this isn\u2019t just Anthropic\u2019s gamble\u2014it\u2019s an industry-wide arms race. In the same week, OpenAI disclosed holding <strong>$12.2 billion in committed capital plus a $4.7 billion revolving credit facility<\/strong>; Z.ai\u2019s $5 billion funding round closed today, and ByteDance secured a $29.6 billion three-year syndicated loan. When top players compete for compute using \u201ccommitted amounts\u201d rather than \u201calready-spent\u201d figures, whoever secures power allocation first locks in their ticket to the next round of competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But let\u2019s pour some cold water\u2014<strong>517 billion is a \u201ccommitment,\u201d not \u201cspent\u201d<\/strong>Most of it is slated for deployment after 2028, and Rum Group\u2019s website does not even exist yet. The real litmus test is whether \u201cnearly profitable for two consecutive quarters\u201d can extend to four.
